Last night’s College Football Championship Game concluded one of the most interesting and competitive college football seasons in recent memory. The Ohio State Buckeyes defeated The Oregon Ducks by a score of 42 – 20, which was not indicative of the competitive fashion of the game. The story of the game was the big time play of The Buckeyes Running Back Ezekiel Elliot, and Quarterback Cardale Jones in his 3rd career start. Santana Moss once famously said “Big time players make big time plays, in big games,” and that was truly the case in the championship game as these two “big-time players” all but solidified their place in the early rounds of the NFL draft. The College football Championship game started as expected with Oregon quickly driving down the field for 6, Oregon’s forced several big turnovers as the game went on, but the Buckeye’s stout defense kept a normally potent Oregon offense in check. As stated earlier Ezekiel Elliot had a major showing in this game, his 36 carries for 246 yards, and 4 TDs not only lead directly to the offensive victory, but also kept the ball away from Marcus Mariota and the Duck’s speedy offensive game. Cardale Jones did not have a huge game, going 16 for 23 with a couple of touchdowns, and an interception, but what he lacked in stats he more than made up for in poise and confidence as he led this team, for only the 3rd time in his career, and led them to a championship. Urban Meyer is quite possibly the best coach in the game today, he took a year off from football a couple of years back, then comes back with an astounding win like this one. I am certain that a team like The Ohio State Buckeyes, with the brilliant coaching and recruiting of Urban Meyer, will be in these playoffs again, and hoisting that trophy more than once more in the years to come. It was a great season of college football, I am already anticipating the greatness that is to come next year.
