Fear keeps us focused on the past or worried about the future. If we can acknowledge our fear, we can realize that right now we are okay. Right now, today, we are still alive, and our bodies are working marvelously. Our eyes can still see the beautiful sky. Our ears can still hear the voices of our loved ones.

-Thich Nhat Hanh

Fear is an emotional state of distress, many different things can cause a person to be fearful, but all fears are similar based on the fact that they can cripple progress. Fear is often irrational, it is both strange and extremely common that many people have fears in which they can never truly pinpoint the origin. The worst part about fears is that they are extremely difficult to overcome since overcoming fears requires the ability to face them head on. I used to think the best way to succeed was to fear failure, but I have since learned that using fear as a driving force is one of the worst things to do in many cases. I will use a black bear as an example, when you see one of these bears it is advisable to stay calm and try to scare it away, rather than to run in fear, if you run from a bear it will chase you, and it will catch you. It is better to focus on goals and leave the fear in the past, since looking in the past will only remind you of your fears. I like how Thich Nhat Hanh puts it, there are more important things than fear, it is best to throw away your irrational fears, and learn to enjoy life and all of its beauty.
