It is better to face a situation with a calm mind than to approach it in anger. Anger definitely clouds judgement and it makes it difficult to rebound from a bad situation, since the things you say when you are angry may actually be how you truly feel at the time. The problem with anger is that it seems to boil up, and when you are upset the first thing on your mind is to release the anger, usually verbally. It is odd that we feel as though our angry statements will make us feel good, but all we do when we speak while angry is give ourselves something to feel bad about at a later time. This quote perfectly states the main issue that comes with speaking in anger. This cleverly written quote acknowledges the fact that angry speeches are heartfelt and emotion in that it states we will make our “best speech,” but it also keeps in mind the fact that we will regret what we say. I am not a huge proponent of the silent treatment, but when it comes to keeping quiet to ensure negative statements are kept in check, I am all for it. Everybody gets angry, we just all need to learn to control our anger until we can calmly air our grievances to the offending party.
