Today I was randomly thinking about how different our world would be if every human was incapable of speaking. I wouldn’t go as far as to say we would be in total chaos, since nonverbal forms of communication do exist, but it would be a completely different society. If you think about it, you would find that most creatures have some form or audible method of communication, and for those who lack these methods, they have visual and hormonal ways to communicate. I wonder if humans would have developed a more advanced sense of hormonal change if we couldn’t speak. I know it is a far fetched scenario to think of all humans being mute, but I doubt we would have as many squabbles and wars if we all couldn’t talk. I am no expert on sign language, so don’t take my word as law, but I think it would be much harder to insult another person if we couldn’t use our words. If humans couldn’t speak, I believe the world overall would just be a nicer place, a place of less argument and of more understanding. Nobody knows how things would actually be in this odd scenario, but one thing I’m sure of is that humanity would still learn to survive and thrive in spite of any obstacles we would face.
